2021 has been an exceptionally busy year for us here at Wiley. As the silly seasons dawns on us, we thought it was a good time to reflect on the year that’s passed.

We’re proud of the partnerships with clients, suppliers, consultants and sub-contractors, both old and new, that we built this year. Great work happens with a team, and at Wiley, we’re lucky to work alongside some of the best in industry. We’re looking forward to working collaboratively together again in the years to come.

Here’s the 2021 year in review.

Projects we worked on together

It’s been a massive year of projects in education, food, industrial, manufacturing and emerging technologies. While we can’t name them all, here’s a selection.

BlockTexx | After more than two years of collaborative development between Wiley and BlockTexx, construction has started on Australia’s first textile recycling facility. The groundbreaking technology developed by BlockTexx is a commercial scale solution to eradicate textile waste, supported by Wiley’s extensive experience in developing bespoke manufacturing facilities.

WAN Feedmill | Wiley were contracted as the Principal Contractor to design and construct Weston Animal Nutrition’s new facility.

St Joseph’s College | Wiley delivered this expansion for this school, which includes four buildings and a new carpark. The buildings consist of General Learning Areas (GLA’s), science room, dance and drama rooms, music practice rooms dedicated sensory learning areas for music, food tech, IDT and art, a library, an amphitheater and student amenities.

John Dee | John Dee engaged Wiley to complete the design and delivery for the Regional Cold Store and ASRS (Automated Storage and Retrieval System) facility. The facility is set to enable John Dee to reduce operational costs, expand storage capacity, increase product sorting capabilities and secure the future of the local, family-owned business.

Lion Leeton Fire Rectification | Lion’s building consisted of three freezer rooms, with two of these used as chillers. A fire occurred within an existing cold-room and initial visual inspection suggested that at least a third of the 2,400m² cold room building had been significantly damaged. Wiley delivered services such as advice, investigation works, demolition and construction of rectification work.

Charities we worked with

For decades, we have made it our business to get involved and give back to our many great communities, causes and charities. This year we were able to work with some awesome organisations, including:

Tour De Office | The Wiley Brisbane team participated in Tour de Office for the second year in a row to raise money for Fareshare. Together we rode over 700km’s, raised over $1000 and had a whole lot of fun doing it!

TRACTION | Continuing our proud support of Brisbane-based charity TRACTION, Wiley worked with generous suppliers to refurbish a facility in Yeerongpilly. Until now, TRACTION has not had their own space to support kids in Brisbane and it was thanks to the support of local businesses that the facility could come to life. Read more here.

We were also pleased to support the CEO Bike Build for the second year running, with Wiley COO Simon Spittle participating in the fundraising event. Read more about the event here.

Brisbane to GC Bike Ride | The Wiley team participated in the Brisbane to Gold Coast Charity 100km bicycle ride to raise money and awareness of prostate cancer. The organisation, with the help of Wiley, raised more than $100,000.

Movember | Wiley Chief Operating Officer once again grew a great mo’ for an even better cause, raising funds for men’s health.

Awards and nominations

While we think our work speaks for itself, we were delighted to add to our trophy cabinet again this year.

AIB QLD | We were honoured to receive an QLD Australian Institute of Building Award for Queensland Health’s QLD Health Modular Theatre Project in Toowoomba. Read more about this award here.

QCF Philanthropy Awards | Wiley was honoured to attend the 2021 QCF Philanthropy Awards Gala Lunch, celebrating the great Queensland spirit of giving back. Wiley was proud to be nominated for our refurbishment of well-known Brisbane youth charity TRACTION’s Yeerongpilly facility in 2021. Read more about the awards here.
